15 August 2019 – Term 3 – Week 4
Tēnā koutou e aku Rangatira,
Last week saw Allandale students bring home a number of championship and plate wins in the EBOP soccer, netball and rugby 7s tournament! Congratulations to all of our athletes for a brilliant day! With an inter-school Maths competition and the annual Tough Guy/Tough Gal run coming up, we are all very enthusiastic about the coming weeks!
Kia tau te rangimārie,
Drew Manning (Principal)
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
At last weeks Board Meeting, it was agreed to co-op two additional trustees by selection:
Kahukura Epiha and Ange Tuari-Hape.
Under section 105 of the Education Act 1989, if 10% or more of the eligible voters on the school roll ask the Board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election, a by-election will be held. Any eligible voter who wishes to ask the board to hold a by election should write to:
The Chairperson, Board of Trustees, Allandale School, 167 King Street, Whakatane 3120
by Wednesday September 11th at 3pm.
With the number of measles cases in Aotearoa New Zealand on the rise, schools have been contacted by the Ministry of Education and the local District Health Board to ensure that our immunisation registers are up to date.
In the event that a student or staff member of the school is diagnosed with measles or other communicable disease, the school would follow instructions from the Chief Medical Officer of the Eastern Bay. We have been advised that the likely outcome would be the stand down of all staff and students who have not been immunised or for whom we have no information until such time as symptoms would have a chance to show. At the moment, we have incomplete immunisation information on almost 200 students.
We are asking that all parents, caregivers and whānau ensure that Allandale School has up-to-date immunisation information for your child(ren). Last week, a notice went home to the families of all students with unknown immunisation status. Please note that New Zealand does not require immunisation in order to attend state schools. We just need to ensure that our records are up to date in the event that we need to know.
If you have any questions about Allandale School’s immunisation policy, please contact the office.
BREAD TAGS FOR WHEELCHAIRS NZ
Mrs Ferguson would like Allandale School to get behind her in supporting this cause. Please save your bread tags and put them in the container at the school office. Bread Tags for Wheelchairs has been recycling bread tags in South Africa since 2006. They currently collect about 500kg/month which funds 2/3 wheelchairs. For more information go to: firstname.lastname@example.org or Facebook – Bread tags for wheelchairs NZ
WATTIE’S “CANS FOR GOOD” CAN DRIVE
With all of the wonderful bread and buns they have been supplying for our tamariki and whānau, Allandale School has been supporting Wattie’s “Cans for Good” for the past two weeks as we help stock our local Salvation Army Foodbanks.
Thanks to all Allandale families and whānau who made contributions, and helped the Salvation Army help those in need! Thanks to Allandale whānau for being The Community Kind!

SPORTS REPORT –
Tough Guy/Gal: Wednesday August 21st (next week)
Time is ticking and entries have been closed for this year’s tough guy/gal competition. We have 70 Allandale kids who consider themselves ready for this fun challenge. I will be giving out shirts for them to use for this event as we do not want your awesome Allandale Sports Shirts full of mud. It will be an early start meeting at the school hall at 7.45am on Wednesday.
Touch Rugby: starts in week 9 so please make sure your money is in at the office as teams will be assigned later this week. This is a weekly event with games on a Wednesday after school at Rex Morpeth Park. Parents will be responsible for getting their tamariki to the park on time. Please see Ms G in room 9 or text 0272908219 if you can help with coaching or managing a team. Remember without your help we cannot make teams.
Winter Sports is coming up in September so please see your child’s teacher if you can help walk the children to this event.
