14 February 2019 – Term 1 – Week 3

Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,

Once again, welcome back to another exciting year at Allandale School!  We have had a strong start to the year, as everyone adapts smoothly to the routines and challenges of school life.  We are really looking forward to a positive year for all of our children, as well as the staff and Allandale community!

All are invited to fill up your picnic baskets and come out to the school next Thursday (21st February) starting at 5:30pm to meet our staff for 2019.

Our new BBQs in the Community Garden will be available to cook your food, and we will have games and swimming.  This is an important opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, and to get to know the rest of the Allandale community.  All are encouraged to attend!

In 2017, the Board of Trustees of Allandale School added a navy-blue hat with either an Allandale logo or no logo at all to the school’s uniform throughout Terms 1 and 4. Please ensure that your child is equipped with an appropriate hat every day so that they don’t miss out on all of our fun outdoor activities!

Allandale School rules require all students with wheels under their feet (scooters, bikes, skateboards, heelies, rollerskates, etc) during school hours to have a helmet on their head. Students without a helmet will be asked to put their wheels away while they are at school.

We strongly recommend to all of our whānau that you equip your tamariki with a helmet whenever they ride, scoot, or skate. No one expects to have a fall, but even a minor accident could have dire consequences for the rest of their lives.

With our new beautiful shade sails in place, Allandale School’s pool is open for Term 1!  The ability to swim is vital for all New Zealanders, and may someday save your child’s life.  Please ensure that your children have their togs and towel at school and are ready to swim every day so that they don’t miss out on this important life skill.

Please let the school know as soon as possible if you have any questions or concerns. We are committed to ensuring that all of our students, staff, and whānau are safe and happy in our school environment, so please keep the lines of communication open. You are encouraged to make contact with Teachers, Team Leaders, Deputy Principals, or the Principal so that we can work together.

In addition, the Board of Trustees is always open to feedback from our community.  Whānau are invited to email the Board at boardoftrustees@allandale.school.nz, or drop off written feedback to the school Office.

There are heaps of sporting opportunities for our children in our district.  We would love to be involved in everything that’s going but will need parent support. If you are able to prepare some children for a particular sport we’d love to hear from you so we can give our children every opportunity going.

This term we need touch rugby, soccer and netball coaches and managers. We also need people to help us with lane keeping on the winning sports days. Please contact the Janene G. in Room 9 if you are able to assist!

Do you know how to play Kiorahi?

Ms G in Room 9 would really appreciate hearing from you as she needs guidance on how it is played.
