1 March 2018 – Term 1 – Week 5

Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,
Thanks to all who came out to last week’s Meet the Staff BBQ.  We were all very happy with the turn-out and really appreciated the opportunity to get to know our students’ families in such a fun and relaxed atmosphere!
Activities are really beginning to ramp up around Allandale with school, inter-school, and regional swim competitions taking place over the next few weeks, and plans underway for our Year 1 and 2 students’ camp
experience.

School Photo Day
Tomorrow (Friday, March 2 nd ), the team from Lazer Photo on the Strand will be in school to take class and individual photos for 2018. Photo order packs were sent home at the beginning of the Term, but if you missed that opportunity you can order photo packs online at http://lazerphoto.co.nz/school-photography.html or go to Lazer Photo to place orders in person.

Allandale Website
Allandale School is pleased to announce the launch of our new website! A long-overdue upgrade has been completed, and the new and improved www.allandale.school.nz is now live.
In response to feedback from our community last year, new features include an interactive calendar, the ability to sign up for emailed newsletters, and access to up-to- date school policies and procedures. Our Facebook page will continue to function as the school’s newsfeed, with up-to- date information and photos of recent activities, and will be mirrored through the new website for easy access.
As always, your feedback and ideas are most welcome!

Sunsmart
Last year hats were made a compulsory part of Allandale School’s uniform. Throughout Term 1 and Term 4, the school requires that all children and staff wear a plain navy hat (wide brim, bucket, or cap) for all outdoor
activities, at morning tea, and at lunchtime.  These hats are available for between $3 and $5 from the Warehouse, Kmart, NZ Uniforms, and many other local shops.
We started off the year with strong participation by students and whānau, but have had to start providing more frequent reminders and hold students without appropriate uniform indoors throughout morning tea and lunch breaks. Please help your tamariki make the most of this outdoor time and ensure that they come to school with their hat!

Eastern Bay Touch Tournament
Yesterday a group of children participated in the Eastern Bay of Plenty Touch Tournament.
The Year 5/6 Allandale Motueka team finished third in their pool. They were coached by Matua Anaru who was very proud of the team’s efforts.
Matua Jason coached the Year 5/6 Allandale Arrows team who placed second in their pool and fourth overall.  Our senior teams showed a lot of grit and determination and achieved some amazing results.
The Year 3/4 Team finished third in their pool and were very unlucky to miss Year 3/4 Team out on the second spot.  This team went from strength to strength throughout the day and Miss Black was extremely proud of all of them.
