28 February 2019  –  Term 1  –  Week 5

Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,

Once again, welcome back to another exciting year at Allandale School!  We have had a strong start to the year, as everyone adapts smoothly to the routines and challenges of school life.  We are really looking forward to a positive year for all of our children, as well as the staff and Allandale community!

Activities are really beginning to ramp up around Allandale with sports registrations now open for netball, hockey, rugby and soccer, and school, inter-school, and regional swim competitions taking place over the next few weeks.

Everyone is invited to fill up your picnic baskets and come out to the school this evening (Thursday, 28th February) starting at 5:30pm to meet our staff for 2019.  Our new BBQs in the Community Garden will be available to cook your food, and we will have games and swimming.  This is an important opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, and to get to know the rest of the Allandale community.  All are encouraged to attend!

Allandale School has been approached by 3P Learning, distributors of learning software including Mathletics, Reading Eggs, WordFlyers, and Spellodrome with an opportunity for our families.  If we have 20 or more students interested in purchasing any of these titles to support their learning at home, we will be able to pass along the special pricing that 3P Learning offers to schools.  Instead of $99, Allandale families will be able to buy any or all of these apps for $29.50.  More information about these products, including free trials, can be found at www.3plearning.com

If you are interested in purchasing Mathletics, Reading Eggs, WordFlyers, Spellodrome, or any of 3P Learning’s products for your child, please place your order with the school office no later than Friday, 22 March.  At that time, we will process the orders or refund your payment if we have not secured enough interest.

Please let the school know as soon as possible if you have any questions or concerns. We are committed to ensuring that all our students, staff, and whānau are safe and happy in our school environment, so please keep the lines of communication open. You are encouraged to contact Teachers, Team Leaders, Deputy Principals, or the Principal so that we can work together.

In addition, the Board of Trustees is always open to feedback from our community.  Whānau are invited to email the Board at BOT@allandale.school.nz, or drop off written feedback to the school Office.

Allandale School is one of many schools in the Eastern Bay that host the Bible in Schools programme for our Year 5 and 6 students.  The focus of this programme is to reinforce school and community values through Christian Bible stories.

The Board of Trustees are in the process of reviewing religious instruction at Allandale School over the next few weeks.  For this reason, the start of Bible in Schools has been postponed until the beginning of Term 2.  Watch the school newsletters, website and Facebook for an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas about the programme.

EBOP Touch Rugby Competition

Allandale participated in the EBOP competition held at Rex Morpeth Park on Wednesday. There was a great turn out for the day and the sun was shining. Allandale was represented by 2 senior teams and 1 middle school team. Thanks to Rio Grey, Jason Christie and Hannah Rangiheuea for their help with this event. Thanks to Claire House for taking some fabulous photos. See more of these great photos on Allandale’s face book page.

We are busy making up teams for soccer for Year 1 to 4.  Your child should have already handed in their notice to Ms G or the office and fees should be paid to the office. Please be quick as we have limited spaces in our teams and first in will be placed first.

We are lucky to have a WaiBOP Football Development Officer running two training sessions to muster interest this year. Any tamariki who want to play this year, or even just try it out, are welcome.

Newcomers to soccer more than welcome! Parents that are keen to help with soccer this year will be warmly welcomed.

Hockey registration forms are coming out Friday so please return these as soon as possible.

Top School

Our Year 6’s have begun training for the Top School Competitions in Tauranga and Awakeri. If your child is part of this, please make sure they have closed in shoes for training days.
