5 March 2020 – Term 1 – Week 6
Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,
If you’ve been following Allandale School’s Facebook page or have visited our website, you will know that these past few weeks have been busy! Between showcasing classrooms, learning programmes, the school’s Swimming Sports competition, Fun4U Day and a planned trip to the beach for our Junior Students. Allandale tamariki have been amongst it all!
And with Interschool swimming, Top School competitions, and up and coming community events, things don’t show any signs of slowing down! Kia kaha, tamariki ma!
OUR SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM
Tania Doherty and Katrina Black are our Deputy Principals – Tania and Katrina are supporting staff to navigate school processes and systems ensuring staff have access to the tools they need to be successful in their roles. They are also providing mentorship and leadership development to support excellence in teaching.
Ashton Thrupp is our senior team leader – Our 2020 goals as a team are to deepen our students’ levels of independence and sense of responsibility for their own learning and to provide a range of meaningful, engaging and authentic learning opportunities that grow critical and creative thinking skills, are interactive and to support students to develop a sense of belonging and connection to the communities in which they are a part of.
Deanna Gulliver is our bilingual leader – Promote and encourage Te Reo Māori as a common language heard in school.
Mamta Naik is our middle team leader – To implement and develop holistic practices to enhance student well-being and remove barriers to learning.
Wendy Adamson is our junior team leader – To foster positive relationships with our tamariki so they can see themselves as confident, successful learners, problem solvers and risk takers.
Allandale School is focused on making our school an important part of our community. We are creating this by developing our school into a shared space for us all to enjoy with family and friends in and outside of school hours. Our hall can be hired for special events. We have BBQ’s and a hangi pit for friends and families to use. We have a healthy pātaka kai (food storehouse). Contact the office for further information.
LEARNING THROUGH PLAY TEAM
Ms Wendy Adamson and Mrs Charlotte Swan are the leaders for our Learning Through Play team this year. Over the past three years our team has been supporting the growth of Learning Through Play across our entire school. Learning Through Play involves providing children with opportunities to explore the curriculum in multiple ways while looking at students’ urges. Urges such as construction, deconstruction, messy play, role play, enclosure, transformation, connection, orientation, trajectory and rotation. Our teachers create situations (provocations) where students can explore and problem solve. This year the team will be focusing on continuing to build rich learning through play environments across our school.
We are looking for volunteers for our morning road patrols. We believe that it is important that our teachers are in their classrooms in the mornings however we need your support in patrolling our crossings. We currently only have two parent volunteers helping with road patrol. If you are free in the mornings from 8.00am to 8.40am please contact the office and Teresa Hoefsloot will be in contact with you.
