8 March 2018 – Term 1 – Week 6
Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,
If you’ve been following Allandale School’s Facebook page or have visited our new website, you will know that this past week has been a busy one! Between the school’s Swimsports competition, taking kids up flying, a surprise BBQ, and a visit from our local list MP, Allandale tamariki have been amongst it all!
And with Interschool swimming, a visit from an Olympian, and plans underway for our Year 1 and 2 students’ camp, things don’t show any signs of slowing down! Kia kaha, tamariki ma!
On Monday, Allandale School held our annual Swim Sports competition for students 8 years of age and over. Thanks to all Allandale staff and whānau for making this wonderful day possible. Once again, these amazing photos come to us courtesy of Allandale parent, Claire House of Claire House Photography (www.clairehousephotography.com/). The full album can also be found on Allandale School’s Facebook page, or through our new website.
The following students listed below have now qualified for the Interschool Swimming Sports to be held on Friday 16th March, pp date 19th March:

Kiri Allan visit
On Tuesday morning, Allandale School welcomed local list MP Kiri Allan with a pōwhiri. Whāea Kiri talked with tamariki, staff and whānau about the future of education in Aotearoa New Zealand, and was introduced to an important school environment project we have been working on. She even took the opportunity to have a go on our new cycle track!
Thanks to Kiri and Anne Collins for taking the time to visit our kura!
Allandale School is pleased to announce the launch of our new website! A long-overdue upgrade has been completed, and the new and improved www.allandale.school.nz is now live.
In response to feedback from our community last year, new features include an interactive calendar, the ability to sign up for emailed newsletters, and access to up-to-date school policies and procedures. Our Facebook page will continue to function as the school’s newsfeed, with up-to-date information and photos of recent activities, and will be mirrored through the new website for easy access.
As always, your feedback and ideas are most welcome!
NZEI Teachers’ Union Meeting
On Thursday, March 22nd, Allandale School’s teaching staff members of NZEI (New Zealand Education Institute unions) will be attending a union meeting. For this reason, we are asking all parents, caregivers and whānau to please arrange to pick their child up from school at lunchtime (12:30pm).
As an employer, the Board of Trustees is obligated to allow all members to attend this meeting. This will mean that there will not be sufficient staff at school to permit instruction to continue as usual.
Please arrange to have your tamariki picked up from school by 12:30pm on Thursday, March 22nd. Thank you for your co-operation.
Everyone is welcome at this FREE WHĀNAU EVENT for the whole community! This month Whakatāne Ki Mua is teaming up with Neighbourhood Support, The Events Network Trust, and a bunch of other community organisations to host Neighbours Day Whakatāne 2018! It’s all about vibrant, engaged, and connected communities, and there will be something for the whole whānau at Allandale School on Saturday, March 24th, 10am – 2pm! So come on down, kōrero with others from your community, have a swim in the school pool, have a jump on the bouncy castle, take the bike for a spin on the cycle track, and give the Project Taiao Team some feedback on their plans for a brand spanking new playground in the heart of Kopeopeo!
