14 March 2019 – Term 1 – Week 7
Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,
It has been another busy week in and around Allandale School! Congratulations to all of our swimmers who participated in this week’s Inter-School Swimming Sports competitions, and best of luck to all of our Inter-School swimmers who will be representing us at the upcoming Bay wide Swimming Sports event. Kia kaha, koutou!
NZEI TEACHERS’ UNION MEETING
Next Tuesday (March 19th), Allandale School’s teaching staff members of NZEI (New Zealand Education Institute unions) will be attending a union meeting. For this reason, we are asking all parents, caregivers and whānau to please arrange to pick their child up from school at lunchtime (12:30pm).
As an employer, the Board of Trustees is obligated to allow all members to attend this meeting. This will mean that there will not be sufficient staff at school to permit instruction to continue as usual.
Please arrange to have your tamariki picked up from school by 12:30pm on Tuesday, March 19th. Thank you for your co-operation.
ROOMS 17, 18 & 19 OHOPE BEACH TRIP
Last week Rooms 19, 18 and 17 travelled by bus to Ohope Beach for the day. We had a fabulous day exploring the environment, playing and swimming in the sea.
The children loved climbing the beautiful Pohutukawa trees in the park, splashing in the waves and finding treasures on the beach.
3P LEARNING
Allandale School has been approached by 3P Learning, distributors of learning software including Mathletics, Reading Eggs, Word Flyers, and Spellodrome with an opportunity for our families. If we have 20 or more students interested in purchasing any of these titles to support their learning at home, we will be able to pass along the special pricing that 3P Learning offers to schools. Instead of $99, Allandale families will be able to buy any or all of these apps for $29.50. More information about these products, including free trials, can be found at www.3plearning.com.
If you are interested in purchasing Mathletics, Reading Eggs, WordFlyers, Spellodrome, or any of 3P Learning’s products for your child, please place your order with the school office no later than Friday, 22 March. At that time, we will process the orders or refund your payment if we have not secured enough interest.
SUNSMART
Last year hats were made a compulsory part of Allandale School’s uniform. Throughout Term 1 and Term 4, the school requires that all children and staff wear a plain navy hat (wide brim, bucket, or cap) for all outdoor activities, at morning tea, and at lunchtime. These hats are available for between $3 and $5 from the Warehouse, Kmart, NZ Uniforms, and many other local shops.
We started off the year with strong participation by students and whānau, but have had to start providing more frequent reminders and hold students without appropriate uniform indoors throughout morning tea and lunch breaks. While it is growing cooler in the morning, Tama-Nui-Te-Rā is still quite strong by mid-day. Please help your tamariki make the most of their outdoor time and keep them safe from the sun by ensuring that they come to school with their hat!
