Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,

It has been another busy week in and around Allandale School!  Best wishes to our Year 2 team who are off to Ōhope Top 10 Holiday Park for their overnight camp next Tuesday.  Congratulations to all of our swimmers who participated in last week’s Allandale Swim Sports competitions, and best of luck to all of our Inter-School swimmers who will be representing us at the Whakatāne Swim Sports event tomorrow.  Kia kaha, koutou!

NZEI Teachers’ Union Meeting

On Thursday, March 22nd, Allandale School’s teaching staff members of NZEI (New Zealand Education Institute unions) will be attending a union meeting.  For this reason, we are asking all parents, caregivers and whānau to please arrange to pick their child up from school at lunchtime (12:30pm).

As an employer, the Board of Trustees is obligated to allow all members to attend this meeting.  This will mean that there will not be sufficient staff at school to permit instruction to continue as usual.

Please arrange to have your tamariki picked up from school by 12:30pm on Thursday, March 22ndThank you for your co-operation.

Bible In Schools

Allandale School is one of many schools in the Eastern Bay that host the Bible in Schools programme for our Year 5 and 6 students.  The focus of this programme is to reinforce school and community values through Christian Bible stories.

Bible in Schools is set to resume on Thursday, March 22nd, and runs each Thursday morning from 9:00-9:30am for our Year 5/6 classes on March 16th.  Parents, caregivers and whānau are reminded of your right to opt out of this programme at any time by providing written notice to the school.  Class programmes continue as normal for all students whose families choose to opt out.

If you would like further information about the Bible In Schools programme, you are invited to contact the school or come out to one of the Thursday morning sessions!

Teacher Only Day

On Thursday, March 29th, Allandale School’s staff will be joining our colleagues from across the Whakatāne Community of Learning in a professional development conference being held at Trident High School.  For this reason, Allandale School will be closed for instruction all day.

Thank you all for your co-operation, and enjoy this extra-long Easter weekend with your tamariki!

Neighbours Day

Everyone is welcome at this FREE WHĀNAU EVENT for the whole community! Sports Reports – By Ms G

Our Allandale cricket team has been famous this week, appearing in the beacon.  They are a dedicated team of Allandale kids who work together at Never Giving Up! Great work, team! Thanks to those parents who have supported this team this season. I really appreciate it and I’m sure your children do also.

Netball got off to great start last Saturday with the first round of grading’s. Thanks so much to Gary Thomas for setting up the gazebo, cooking sausages and bearing fruit, giving the Allandale squad a home base. Thanks also to the fabulous coaches for stepping up! Without you, our children could not have these fantastic opportunities. Thanks so much. On the court, Makere Smith showed her skills in defence and the teamwork and excitement of the first day of play was a huge success. Keep up the great work girls! Thanks also to the parents who supported our girls on Saturday, it was great to hear there was a fabulous turn out on the day.

Top School

These competitors Tekaumarua Christie, Kaedyn Thrupp, Jayden Ohlson, Matiaha Raynes Turnbull, Traize Jobe, Ali Cole, Mania Wallace, Alizae Tahu, Jaya Wipaki-Kameta, Mikayla Wood and Darrchell Rahipere-Taitapanui face Gate Pa in Tauranga in the tough competition this Thursday at Top School. This will be a great lead up to the competition at Awakeri on the Sunday 25th March.

Interschool Swimming Sports

This Friday is the Interschool Swimming Sports at Whakatane Aquatic Centre. Allandale has 16 children participating in this event so good luck to you all. Thanks immensely to Jolene Lawlor for supplying us with Kaylee, and also for her huge input into helping organise this event. You are awesome.

Middle School Swimming Sports

Last Friday the middle school held their Allandale Swimming Sports at the Allandale Aquatic Centre.  A truly fabulous event, with our Allandale children showing off their huge amounts of enthusiasm for swimming throughout the day. Thanks so much to our whanau/caregivers who came to share in our children’s successes and enjoy a picnic with their children on the day.

Thanks again to the Evans whanau who were a great support on the day, helping set up and put away all of the equipment.

Once again, these amazing photos come to us courtesy of Allandale parent, Claire House of Claire House Photography (www.clairehousephotography.com/).The full album can also be found on Allandale School’s Facebook page, or through our new website.
