14 June 2018  –  Term 2  –  Week 7

Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,

As our week of Matariki celebrations continues, Allandale School has been a bustle of activity!  Meanwhile, the past week has seen Allandale students represented brilliantly in a number of events and competitions.  From school-wide and Whakatāne regional Cross-Country to Rippa Rugby, Allandale students have made themselves, their school, and their community proud!  A big “thank you” to all of the staff and parents who have volunteered their time to give our children the opportunity to participate in so many exciting events.

Matariki atua ka eke mai i te rangi e roa, e roa, e

Whāngainga iho ki te mata o te tau e roa, e.

Matariki rising in the broad heavens

Nourish those below with the first fruits.

Falling on the day of the first new moon after the constellation crests the horizon, this year Matariki will be tomorrow (Friday, June 15th)!  Te Kura o Motueka will celebrate this important occasion with Matariki Hair Day, and a special assembly at 11:00am.

School-wide events will conclude with whānau kaitahi (eating lunch together) on the back court at 12:00pm.  Lunch will be accompanied by music and entertainment from our bi-lingual classes and kapa haka roopu.  All Allandale parents and whānau are most welcome to join us!

On Wednesday, June 27th, Allandale School’s teaching staff members of NZEI (New Zealand Education Institute unions) will be attending a union meeting.  For this reason, we are asking all parents, caregivers and whānau to please arrange to pick their child up from school at lunchtime (12:30pm).

As an employer, the Board of Trustees is obligated to allow all members to attend this meeting.  This will mean that there will not be sufficient staff at school to permit instruction to continue as usual.

Please arrange to have your tamariki picked up from school by 12:30pm on Wednesday, June 27thThank you for your co-operation.

It is vital that the school is able to contact the parents, caregivers and whānau of each of our students in the event of an emergency.  We ask that all Allandale families please get in touch with the school office on (07) 308-7645 or at learnalot@allandale.school.nz to update contact information for your child(ren).  Thank you!

The staff of Allandale School would like to thank all of our parents, caregivers, and whānau who are coming out after school and on Saturday mornings to support their children during our winter sports season!  It is absolutely awesome to see so many mums, dads, aunties, uncles, nannies and koros cheering their young sportsmen and women.

Tūmeke, te whānau!

SPORTS REPORT – by Ms. Giordano
