16 August 2018 – Term 3 – Week 4

Tēnā koutou e aku Rangatira,

With the Rangitaiki Festival, a special pōwhiri to welcome the beautiful trophies our tamariki earned, and students off running through the mud in the Tough Kid competition in Rotorua, this has been a very exciting week for Allandale School!  The coming weeks continue to be very busy, with Year 5/6 camp, the Taneatua Sevens tournament, and ground-breaking celebrations for Te Puna Taiao just around the corner.

Kia tau te rangimārie,

Drew Manning (Principal)

RANGITAIKI FESTIVAL

Congratulations to Allandale’s Whakangāhau and Novice Kapa Haka roopu who took the stage at the Rangitaiki Cultural Festival last Friday!

Our Whakangāhau performers went on just after lunch, and brought the audience to their feet with an outstanding bracket. While the group wasn’t officially judged, they certainly made their whānau proud!

Te Kura o Motueka’s Novice tamariki went on later in the afternoon, and put on their best performance yet! This time, though, it wasn’t just their whānau who were impressed…

As the Novice group final scores were announced, Te Kura o Motueka took home many awards including third place overall! Other achievements included:

1st Place – Mōteatea
1st Place – Kaitātaki Tāne
1st Place – Whakawātea
2nd Place – Kaitātaki Wahine
2nd Place – Whaikōrero
3rd Place – Choral
3rd Place – Poi
3rd Place – Kākahu
3rd Place – Waiata Ā Ringa

Congratulations once again to both of our Kapa Haka roopu. These tamariki have made us all so proud of them and of Te Kura o Motueka – Allandale School!

Thanks once again to Whāea Jackie, Whāea Dee, Matua TK, Whāea Aroha and Whāea Cilla for all of their hard work over the past weeks. And a big mihi to all of our whānau who have been there to support the roopu throughout!

Beautiful portrait photos, taken by Claire House Photography of all the tamariki, are now available to view and purchase.  (See the panui sent out on Tuesday for all the details.)

TEACHER STRIKE

Thanks to all Allandale whānau for your support during yesterday’s teacher strike.  While indications have been made that there could be future actions, we are hopeful that the Ministry of Education and the union will make progress over the next few weeks, and that there will be no further impact on our tamariki.

We thank you again for your support.

WATTIE’S “CANS FOR GOOD” CAN DRIVE

With all of the wonderful bread and buns they have been supplying for our tamariki and whānau, Allandale School is excited to support Wattie’s “Cans for Good” as we help stock our local Salvation Army Foodbanks.

“Cans for Good” will be running for two weeks, from August 13th to August 24th.  During this time, tamariki are asked to please bring donations of canned goods in to the school office.  Together we can make a difference!

Last year Wattie’s Cans for Good collected 62,000 cans and Wattie’s generously donated additional cans taking the number to over 90,000. This significant contribution helps to make up food parcels for those Kiwis who need food assistance, dealing with New Zealand’s rising living costs.

KIDS CAN ‘CRAZY DAY’ fundraiser held last week raised $253.00.  There were lots of crazy hairstyles and outfits on show.  This fundraiser goes to support the Kids Can Charitable Trust who do so much to support us and many other schools with food, raincoats and health related items.

LATENESS AND ABSENTEEISM

A reminder to families that at Allandale School, our classes begin at 8:45am.  Parents, caregivers and whānau are strongly encouraged to please ensure that your children are at school on time and ready to learn.  Students arriving after 8:45 create a disruption for teachers and the other students in the class.  Students arriving late are also missing out on socialization time with their friends before classes begin and, more importantly, are missing out on what has been proven to be some of the most valuable learning time of the day.  Thank you for your co-operation.
