31 October 2019  –  Term 4  –  Term 3

Tēnā koutou e aku Rangatira,

With our Term 4 focus on Mana Mātauranga (The Learning Kind and The Achieving Kind), the students and staff of Allandale School are all working hard to ensure that these last few weeks of 2019 are engaging and productive.  At the moment, the school is abuzz with activity – preparing for upcoming athletics competitions and various trips out and around our community.  Parents and caregivers are advised to keep an eye out for permission forms as these activities ramp up over the next few weeks!

Kia tau te rangimarie,

Drew Manning

Principal

SAILING

Last week, Allandale’s School Leaders had the opportunity to try sailing out on Ohiwa Harbour. The weather was quite squally, but Allandale’s sailors picked up the skills quickly and had a fantastic time!

Thanks to Yachting New Zealand and the Volvo “Have a Go” sailing programme, and to the Ohope Yacht Club for two amazing days on the water!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR NEXT YEAR

We are in the process of organising our classes for 2020.  We need your co-operation to ensure things run smoothly.

Bilingual (English – Te Reo Māori) Classes

An ‘Expression of Interest’ notice was sent home last week.  Placements in our Bilingual Classes are expected to be very competitive for 2020, and spots will be allocated on a “first come – first served” basis.  While these are to be returned no later than 8th November, all interested families are encouraged to get their forms in as soon as possible!

2020 Class Placement Information

If you would like us to consider anything about the placement of your child for next year please complete the form below.  We will be doing our best to ensure your child is in a class where they are happy and learning.  The goal is for all of our classes is to have a sensible balance of gender, ethnicity, and with manageable ability groups. It’s a tricky job!  Please note that this is not an opportunity to request a particular teacher. All of our teachers are experts in what they do.

Time Frames

As mentioned above, organising our classes is tricky. Please return the ‘Expression of Interest’ for the bilingual classes and ‘Class Placement’ forms by 8th November. Once the classes are organised it becomes very difficult to make adjustments.  Please help us by following the process now.

STUDY LEAVE

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Allandale School, we would like to inform our community of a recent development.  The Ministry of Education has awarded our Principal, Drew Manning, with a study leave scholarship for 32 weeks next year.  Mr. Manning will be taking this opportunity to complete his Master’s degree in Education.  From March 2nd to November 22nd, 2020, he will be visiting schools and researching best practice implementation of Learning Through Play, MakerSpaces, and Inquiry and Project Based Learning.  It is his intention to return to Allandale School equipped with the skills and knowledge required to get the very best out of the wonderful new Taiao assets, our engaging curriculum, and our amazing kids!

The Board of Trustees of Allandale School would like to assure our parents, caregivers, and whānau that we are in the process of securing a strong Acting Principal to lead our kura in Mr. Manning’s absence.  The mission and vision of Allandale remain at the forefront, and we will continue to work to fulfill these aspirations.
