12 December 2019  –  Term 4  –  Week 9

Tēnā koutou e aku Rangatira,

As difficult as it is to believe, this will be our last school newsletter for 2019!  I am extremely proud of all the hard work our students and staff have put in this year in order to make it such a success.  Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou!

And of course, thanks also go out to you, the Allandale School community, for the support you have shown your children throughout the year.  Education is a partnership, and we could not do our job without your help.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  Meri Kirihimete me ngā mihi tino nui o te tau hou ki a koutou katoa!

Kia tau te rangimarie,

Drew Manning

We are very excited to announce some major changes to the structure and organisation of our School Prizegiving and Year 6 Graduation. Over the past few years, we have struggled with the timing of Prizegiving and the need for our younger students sit for such long periods of time.  Furthermore, we really want to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work, time and effort our Year 6 students have put into their primary schooling.

So, this year, we will hold one formal evening event this Monday (Dec. 16th) to celebrate and award our major prizes and trophies, our Year 6 graduation certificates and announce and award our 18 School Leaders for 2020. This event is focused on our Year 5 and 6 students.  Over and above this event – in a more child-friendly manner – each team has been holding their own assemblies during school time to award special certificates to their selected students acknowledging their individual strengths. These special ceremonies will be held over the next few days, so parents of tamariki in Years 1 to 4 are asked to please watch for notices from your child’s teacher and/or team leader for more details on these events.

End-of-year Learning Journey reports will be sent home to parents, caregivers, and whānau tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 13th).  If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s report, you are invited to contact their teacher next week.

The last day of school for 2019 will be next Wednesday (Dec. 18th).  Class lists for 2020 will be posted in the windows of the school’s library on Wednesday morning, and tamariki will have the chance to spend some time in their 2020 classes and meet their teachers for a few minutes that morning.

Please note that school ends at 12:00pm on the last day.  There will be a final assembly in Te Kaitiaki o Motueka beginning at 11:30pm.

As part of our final assembly next Wednesday, we will be revealing the winner of Allandale School’s House League competition for 2019!  Tamariki are invited to show their spirit by wearing their House colours on our last day of the year:  Whakaari (orange), Motueka (purple), Tarawera (green), and Putauaki (pink).  Please contact your child’s teacher if you need to confirm which House, they are in.

Please search bedrooms and cupboards for any school readers and library books and return them to school urgently please.  We have a large number still outstanding.

All Allandale whanau are asked to please take a few minutes to complete this survey and give us important feedback about your whānau’s experience of Allandale. All surveys completed will go into the draw to win a $100 KMart voucher, to be drawn on the last day of school.

The survey can be completed online at https://tinyurl.com/vcpjvez.  Thank you for your assistance!

As you may be aware, the government recently announced a funding package that would allow all schools in Aotearoa New Zealand to bring forward planned property improvements.  This funding is unique in that it comes without many of the restrictions placed on property projects, and so presents an exciting opportunity for our school.  The Board of Trustees are very enthusiastic about the chance to pursue some much-needed upgrades to areas of our school and are keen to get some input from the Allandale community!

If you have recommendations or ideas about building and maintenance projects that you feel should be prioritised, you are invited to contact the Board by email at boardoftrustees@allandale.school.nz or through the school office.

The Board of Trustees is in the process of gauging interest in establishing a Parent-Teacher-Whānau Association (PTWA) next year.  If you are interested in participating in a group of like-minded individuals keen to contribute to school life here at Allandale, you are invited to contact the Board by email at boardoftrustees@allandale.school.nz or through the school office.  A first meeting will be scheduled early in 2020.
