Term 1: Week 5, 27 February 2020

Tēnā koutou e aku rangatira,

Term one is racing by extremely quickly. Your teachers, support staff and I are focusing on strengthening our school systems and procedures. In our classrooms reinforcing school routines and developing a collective understanding and classroom culture is providing our children with a stable foundation. This is a great time of the year to help your children develop great home – school routines also. Getting children to unpack their bags, lunch boxes, change out of their uniform are easy routines to establish now.

We are busy strengthening our communication systems and are now using web platforms more regularly. Our Facebook is regularly updated with events and celebrations so make sure you follow and share our Facebook. We are also a SEESAW school. This is a platform where your child’s teacher will share their learning and messages with you. Over the next few weeks please look out for an invitation to join this.

Thank you

Adrianne McAllister

WORKING TOGETHER

Over the next few weeks we are focusing on being Kind to Myself. Having a healthy lunch,  plenty of water and a hat are essential for these hot summer days. Being ready to learn by having enough sleep and family time is also important for our wellbeing.

HAUORA TEAM

Mr Warwick Patterson and Maia Connor are the leaders for our Hauora team. In the past this team supported the development of our Allandale Kind of Kids, I’m KIND to myself, I’m KIND to others, I’m KIND to the environment, I’m the learning KIND, I’m the Achieving KIND, I’m the community KIND.

Warwick  and Maia focus for 2020 is to continue developing the Positive Behaviour 4 Learning programme and provide more ownership across the school. Every week a team will run our Monday morning virtue assembly. Each assembly focuses on a specific value. Over the past 3 weeks room 5 has been sharing how important Being KIND to Myself is.

Next Room 1 will be sharing how we value being KIND to others and how this can make a difference in someone’s life.

ROAD PATROL

We are looking for volunteers for our morning road patrols. We believe that it is important that our teachers are in their classrooms in the mornings however we need your support in patrolling our crossings. We currently only have two parent volunteers helping with road patrol.  If you are free in the mornings from 8.00am to 8.40am please contact the office and Teresa Hoefsloot will be in contact with you.

EBOP TOUCH TOURNAMENT
Thank you to all our teachers Whaea Hailey, Whaea Dee and Matua Trent,  and parents who went along to support our children at the EBOP Touch Tournament yesterday. We were lucky enough to have 5 amazing coaches, Tegan Butler, Dale Jones, Alex McFarland-Ratu, Melville Clay and Ange Tuari-Hape, who guided our children throughout the day. We also had many parents playing a smaller, but important role such as walking alongside children to the event, organising substitutes and scoring. Please don’t underestimate the importance each of these roles have on our children participating in the events.

Thank you to our teams that went down and participated in the day. Your sportsmanship was noted and it was a fabulous time refining your skills on the field. Our parents commented how students had a positive, supportive attitude.
