Pepeke 19: Term 1 2021 Class newsletter
Welcome to Pepeke 19 for 2021
Kia ora te Whanau,
Welcome to Pepeke 19 for 2021. Karla and I are looking forward to another great year of learning and getting to know tamariki and whanau new to our class. We are a learning through play year 1 and 2 class which gives children a happy and smooth transition from pre-school to primary school and helps them to develop a positive image of themselves as learners. Below is some information about our school and class that may be useful.
We are learning how to be Allandale kind of kids.
Kind to myself, Kind to others, Kind to the environment, The learning kind, The achieving kind, The community kind.
This term we are focusing on the first 3 in particular – kind to myself, others and the environment.
UNIFORM
Please ensure your child has the correct uniform and that it is named. It is a good idea to name shoes, lunchboxes, drink bottles and hats as well.
BELL TIMES
The morning bell is at 8.45. Please support your child to be on time as this sets them up for a successful day of school, The final bell is at 2.40.
SEESAW
This app is designed to give you an insight into school life with learning stories, photos and videos of your child at school that you can share and chat about when they get home. We also share notices and information with you. We can privately message each other (like texting) in the app.
SWIMMING
Please make sure your child has their togs and towel every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. We will be building confidence in, on and under the water as well as learning some water safety skills. If you have any old togs we would love some spares.
LEARNING THROUGH PLAY
We are enjoying using our wonderful outdoor and indoor spaces when playing and learning. We are always on the look out for new resources for the play so if you think you have something we could use please let us know.
HATS
We are a sun safe school and all students are expected to wear a plain navy blue sunhat in Terms 1 and 4. It is a good idea that they have a named hat that stays at school as this is one less thing for them to remember each morning. Our tamariki do a lot of their learning outside at this time of the year so a sunhat is essential.
BRAINFOOD AND LUNCH
Please include a healthy snack in your child’s lunchbox for their morning tea. Some ideas are carrot sticks, cucumber slices, raisins, cheese and sandwiches. We provide fruit each day and there are water fountains also. Your child will bring all their rubbish home. Containers are a good way to reduce rubbish.
HOME LEARNING
Home-school partnerships are so important. Your child needs to know that we are working together to support them to be successful learners. Each night they will bring home their book bag with their home book which includes poems, alphabet and word lists, numbers and some basic facts. They may also have a book or activity card to share with you. Please support your child’s efforts and remind them to bring their book bag each day.
HELPERS IN OUR CLASS
We are appreciative of any help you can provide in our class for the Pepeke learners - listening to a child read, helping with art, cooking, talking with children as they play for example. Or if you have an interest or passion that you would like to share, then we would love to hear from you. Please let us know if you are able to help.
TERM 1 FOCUS
This term we are focusing on developing positive relationships with peers, getting to know each other, being a kind friend, and learning how to share and take turns. We are also learning how to care for ourselves, our things and our environment.
BEACH DAY
The Year 1/2 team are planning a trip to Ōhope Beach in early March. Rooms 13, 16, 17, 18 and 19 will travel by bus to Mahy reserve where we will enjoy a walk, a swim, picnic lunch and plenty of play and fun. Of course we will need lots of parent helpers.
CONTACTING ME
You are welcome to contact us before and after school in person, or you can phone the school office 3087645 and leave a message. You can also use Seesaw to make contact. We are looking forward to an exciting and fun term of learning.
