School Newsletter Week 4, Term 2
Kia ora e te whānau,
Hope everyone is well.
COVID-19:
Thank you for your ongoing support with Allandale School at Orange.
At present we have 0 positive cases of COVID-19 that we are aware of in the school. Be super proud whānau and let’s continue to be super diligent.
Reminder: If your child or someone in your household gets COVID-19, please give us a call on (07) 308 7645.
Free Flu Vaccinations:
TPOOM will be onsite from 10.00am – 1.00pm on Thursday the 9th of June to provide free flu vaccination for whānau. Vaccinations are free for all whānau aged 3 and upwards. PLEASE NOTE: Students will only be vaccinated if their parents are present.
School Curfew:
As explained in last week's newsletter, we will be implementing a school curfew at Allandale School starting this coming Monday the 30th of May.
This means that outside of school operating hours the Allandale School grounds will be closed between 6.00pm and 7.00am. This will be monitored by our Security Company and the Whakatāne Police in an attempt to reduce the vandalism we have been experiencing recently.
As with everything there will be some teething issues to begin with so we will keep you updated as any changes are made. We appreciate your ongoing support with this.
Hauora Day:
Given we have a TOD next Friday the 3rd of June and with Queens Birthday on Monday the 6th of June we have decided to review the timing of our Hauora (Health and Well-Being) Day which was initially planned for June the 13th. This will be confirmed with whānau asap.
NZSTA Elections:
Upcoming Elections for the Allandale School BOT are coming up in September. If you’re interested or want to know more please contact the front office.
Vacancies:
We have 2 x Teacher Aide vacancies coming up.
If you are interested please email a current CV including 3 referees to learnalot@allandale.school.nz.
In relation to the requirements for safety checks of children’s workers you will also need to provide 2 forms of ID and complete police vetting information about previous criminal convictions (if any).
No reira, please take care of yourselves and your tamariki whānau. There are loads of bugs going around at the moment and it’s the saddest thing when tamariki are sick. If we can also be more diligent with our expectations around school uniform that would be fantastic.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
This term we are wanting to work hard with families to have all children at school, when healthy.
Children who are at school regularly -
Have improved learning outcomes
Better relationships and social skills
Enjoy school more
Have increased self-esteem
The Ministry of Education guidelines state regular attendance as 90%. .
We are here to support whānau and can help with uniform or kai. Kaiako and our Attendance Officer, Kleesha, will be touching base with families to help tamariki transition back into regular attendance to kura. Matua Rikki has also been making home visits to whānau as we prefer this approach, before getting Attendance Services involved.
Kapa Haka
After two years of not being able to perform, it is exciting to have Kapa Haka running again. Whaea Mariana has been working with the roopu and had a great response to the hui yesterday afternoon. Thank you to those who could make it. We love hearing the singing coming from our school hall - Te Kaitiaki o Moteuka - in the afternoons. Whaea Mariana will be staying in touch with the whānau of the tamariki involved via newsletters and Facebook.
If you have any questions please email
Cross Country
Despite a bit of rain, last Friday’s Cross Country and then Fun Run was a success. The tamariki who ran the Cross Country have been told who will be competing at the Eastern Bay competition in Week 7 and more details will be shared soon.
Should you have any concerns regarding your tamariki, we ask that the below process is followed. Your child’s teacher spends the most time with them and knows them well. Our doors are always open for whānau.
