School Newsletter Week 2, Term 2
Kia ora e te whānau,
Congratulations to Whaea Maia and James who welcomed a little baby girl (yet to be named) on Saturday. Sending aroha your way. Whaea Maia will be on leave for the remainder of Term 2 and Matua Tutonga will be in Room 12 while she is away.
Whaea Mariana will now be leading Room 14 with Kohine Roimata as Teacher Aide for the remainder of the year, and although she started last term we also officially welcome Kohine Kyra as a Teacher Aide to the A-Team. Tau ke whānau!
Thank you everyone for your support re: COVID-19. Allandale School is at Orange and whānau are doing a fantastic job of following the current school expectations. Kei runga noa atu koutou! At present there are 5 Positive COVID-19 cases we have been informed about. Masks are still being worn by all staff. Papa Pat continues to test the air in our classrooms daily. Testing results remain the same ie. the air is safe in all areas. Our expectations are that windows and doors are open for at least 5 – 10 minutes per hour. We are also part of the Ministry of Education’s - Ventilation in School’s Initiative (Fortnightly Working Group). Most recent korero within the working group suggests air opening a door / window 5 - 10cm for 5 - 10 minutes per hour reduces the risk whānau. Reminder: If your child or someone in your household gets COVID-19, please give us a call on (07) 308 7645.
Hui-a-kura (Assembly) will be held every Friday from 2.00pm – 2.30pm.
Ngā mihi mahana to all new tamariki and whānau to Allandale. We hadn’t had a pōwhiri in a little while so Monday was great. Special thank you to Nan Nan, Matua Charlie, Whaea Mariana, Matua Dallas and the entire Allandale Team for the support. Arohatinonui!
Reminder: Whānau Group t-shirt day tomorrow (every Friday / Friday’s Only) and congratulations to Toka Tapu for being the winning whanau group last week!
Please continue to keep an eye out for Allandale School outside of school hours whānau. If you see something happening that doesn’t look quite right, say something or contact the Police like our good samaritan.
Apparently I made a mistake in loading our Cup Stacking Challenge video. Tāku he. We’ll try to rectify this by the end of the day tomorrow.
Breakfast Club starts at 8.00am. Our Fruit in Schools and School Lunch programmes are running and we are continuing to encourage tamariki to bring water bottles. We have slightly adjusted the lunch pick up time with Ka Pai Kai enabling our team to sort uneaten lunches and provide these for any whānau. A message is put on Facebook and kai is made available under the shelter to the left of the main office doors. Sport is also up and running and we look forward to providing opportunities for the tamariki in this space.
Most tamariki are back at school but there are a handful of tamariki we are missing and yet to see return. Classroom teachers will be touching base with whanau yet to re-engage. The office will follow up on this either by phone call / message / or home visit. If we can be of any help in terms of re-engagement please let us know.
Ngā mihi whānau.

Future Fern Day
On Tuesday a group of Year 5/6 girls attended the Future Fern Day at Rugby Park.
They learnt how to tackle safely, score trys, how to defend and attack. Thank you to BOP Rugby and Girl Code for an awesome day!
School Cross Country
Our school cross country will be next Friday May 20th with a postponement date of May 27th. This will be run as a whole school event - in the morning the competitive runners will compete for places in the cross country team. This will be followed by Junior/Middle/Senior Fun Run for non competitive athletes through the school.
For the Fun Run, tamariki can wear their new house tee shirts and dress up!! Extra points given for creativity.
Pass It Forward
The Tania Dalton Foundation has partnered with Rebel Sport and Silver Fern Sport for the
Pass it Forward programme. For every Pass it Forward ball sold in a Rebel Sport store an identical ball is donated to the programme and distributed to schools.
Khiarna Williams is a scholarship recipient of the foundation and chose Allandale as one of the schools to donate balls to. She came into our kura on Tuesday to drop off 50 balls for our tamariki. Ngā mihi to Khiarna and the Tania Dalton Foundation for this generous donation.
Sport Bay of Plenty has let us know about different activities that are available for tamariki. Parents will need to take children if they want to participate. Please contact Katrina Black through the school if you are interested.
