School Newsletter: Week 1, Term 4 2021
Kia ora e te whānau,
It’s been choice to catch up with tamariki and whānau. Term 4 has started off really well. A huge thank you to everyone in supporting Alert Level 2 at Allandale School. There have been significant improvements so THANK YOU WHĀNAU.
Tamariki are predominantly arriving between 8.15am – 8.40am, parents have only been visiting the school site when absolutely essential and are also adhering more to the wearing of masks, hand sanitising, maintaining 2m from others and signing in at the school office before moving anywhere around the school.
We do need your help at pick up time though whānau - so please remember - mask, hand sanitiser, sign in at the school office before picking up your child and maintaining 2m from others.
New information has come out from the government this morning re: a new traffic-light system replacing full lockdowns and we will be aligning with this new system when making decisions around things like sports activities, school camps, prizegivings and all education outside the classroom activities which will require some flexibility from us all.
Mr G was at school this week. He and I used to play volleyball back in 1993 / 1994 so personally it has been choice to catch up again and talk about the good old days. We will be organising an event to officially share our mural with whānau and will share these details with you all once confirmed. Check out our FB page to see some of Mr G’s beautiful mahi for the school and with tamariki.
As per always, there is a load happening at Allandale School and we appreciate your aroha whānau in supporting us all.
Hope everyone has a great long weekend – back to school Tuesday.
Ngā mihi
Matua Rikki
P.S. Please also remind your tamariki about bringing their own water bottles and hats (navy blue and without branding) this term.
Joey the Lizard
Jack Arbaugh from Room 9 brought his pet lizard Joey in to show his classmates. You can imagine the delight of the children and his teacher Mrs Naik. Joey is an Australian Water Dragon and at home has a three storey structure to play in!
Tough Guy / Gal
Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions, Allandale School has withdrawn from the tough guy / gal competition for 2021. We made the call to withdraw from the competition as it has been postponed again and the event organisers are only offering a 50% refund from this point forward. Due to the first postponement, we had not yet paid the registration fees for our children, so have decided to pull out so that all students can receive a full refund from us here at school.
To action this refund, we are kindly asking that all parents come into the school office with their EFTPOS cards so that we can credit the registration back into your accounts. If you have any queries or questions, please phone the school office on (07) 308 7645.
Whakatane Intermediate Orientation Day
With the new Alert Level 2 Covid-19 restrictions, there has been a change of plans to our Orientation Visit to Intermediate for our Yr 6 students. As such, we will be taking all of our Yr 6 students to the Intermediate next Wednesday the 27th of October from 9am - 11am. We will be the only other school onsite during this visit and social distancing will be encouraged. Due to this visit starting promptly at 9am, we are asking all Yr 6 students to be at school by 8.45am and we will be travelling by bus to and from the Intermediate.
School will continue as usual for everyone else on this day.
We also need the enrolment forms for the Intermediate back on Tuesday morning.
