School Newsletter: Week 2, Term 3 2021
Kia ora e te whānau,
Hope everyone has had a great week.
How good are our EBOP Olympians? Super proud to be from Whakatāne whānau.
The wheels are moving here at school and I’m really enjoying getting to know the tamariki, whānau and staff more and am starting to understand the way our school functions and future aspirations. There are some exciting developments being planned and I’m looking forward to actioning these when the time is right.
We had a group of 12 principals from Wellington schools visit our school to explore our Te Puna Taiao, upcoming sports events are on the way and with some procedural and deliberate changes we have made to our school program the term has started well.
Acknowledgements to all whānau for the way you are role-modelling our school values (Manaakitanga, Whānaungatanga, Kaitiakitanga) around the school. Ka mau te wehi!
Hope to catch up with more of you soon.
Matua Rikki
Teacher Only Day
Along with the other schools in our Community of Learning (COL) we have a Teachers’ Only Day coming up Wednesday 11 August. School will be closed for the day as our staff engage in workshops learning about our local iwi, Ngati Awa.
Assemblies
School assemblies are on Friday afternoons in our hall - Te Kaitiaki o Motueka - at 2pm. This is for the whole school and is when we do our Allandale Kind of Kids rewards. Whanau are welcome to come along and be part of the end of week celebrations.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is on every morning in our school hall from 8am to 8.30am. Weetbix, toast and milos. Thanks to Kids Can who provide the weetbix, bread and spreads for our tamariki to enjoy.
Fruit In Schools
As well as the delicious free lunches we receive every day, our tamariki also get to enjoy free fruit from Fruit in Schools. This week we have had apples, oranges, carrots and bananas. This fruit is in every classroom and can be enjoyed as part of brain food at 10.30am as well as lunchtime. How lucky are our tamariki!!

Absences
Unless tamariki are unwell or there are some very special circumstances, everyone is expected to attend school every day. If someone is away please leave a detailed message on our answerphone 07 308 7645 or email at learnalot@allandale.school.nz
If we have not heard why a child is away then they are marked as Truant.
Also any child arriving at school after the school bell rings at 8.45am needs to report to the office so they are not marked as being absent. Thank you.
Safety First
Just a reminder that our school gate is locked every morning from 8:15am to 8:45am and in the afternoons from 2.30pm to 3:00pm. This is to ensure the safety of our tamariki during these busy periods and it is our school policy that we do not unlock the gate until after these times. Thank you for your understanding.
School Uniforms
Please ensure that all school uniform and footwear are clearly named. We have several new school jerseys in the lost property with no names on them.
