School Newsletter: Week 3 , Term 3 2021
Kia ora e te whānau,
We had a teacher only day at Mataatua Whare this Wednesday focused on Te waka Mataatua coming to Kakahoroa (Whakatāne) organised by the Kāhui Ako. It was amazing listening to William Stewart (Ngāti Hokopu), Rapata Kopae (Ngāti Pukeko) and Ngaire Rapana (Te Runanga o Ngāti Awa) and we look forward to implementing parts of their korero into our local curriculum.
We also had 10 teams out playing netball, soccer and rugby yesterday. Thank you to our teacher in charge of sport Whaea Hailey and her team of staff, coaches and whānau for their aroha throughout the day.
Just a reminder re our role as kaitiaki of Allandale School. We have a beautiful community school and we would like to keep it this way. If we can remind our whānau of this and keep an eye out when we are passing through/by, that would be choice.
Enjoy your weekend whānau.
Ngā mihi
Matua Rikki
New Enrolments
We have had an amazing number of new enrolments here at Allandale. If you have a little one at home about to turn 5 and are looking at them starting school either this year or early next year, we would love to hear from you. This helps us with planning our junior classes. We also find that if the child has had the opportunity to do several school visits before starting, they settle much better.
Tough Guy/Tough Gal
We have over 70 tamariki wanting to run through the mud for the Tough Challenge next Thursday. This is always a fun, popular event and a big thank you must go to all the parents and caregivers who are helping with the transport to Rotorua.
Sports News
On Thursday, 12th of August, close to 100 Allandale students participated in the EBOP Sevens Tournament. We had 3 teams go to Rugby, 3 teams go to Netball and 4 teams go to Soccer.
Matua Rikki reminded us of the rules:
1. Have fun!
2. Be safe!
3. Learn (because learning doesn't just happen in the classroom!)
Yesterday our tamariki did all those things and more, making us all so proud! Ka rawe!!!
A big mihi to all our kaiako and whānau coaching and supporting our children too. We couldn't do this without you, and you make our kura proud too!
Keeping Healthy
Unfortunately, we have a few children who have recently had school sores. Please be vigilant in keeping an eye on your children’s skin and seeking treatment when needed. Our local chemists offer free advice and treatment for skin infections.
Thanks to Kids Can, here at school we also have free shampoo and combs for headlice.
