School Newsletter: Week 6, Term 1, 2021
“Rere atu kia whakairohia to ake ao”
This korero, which is illustrated in the carvings of our waharoa, reflects our intention as a school - nurturing learners so that upon leaving Allandale, they are ready to fly off and carve their own futures.
Kia ora e te whānau, This week has been a busy week with a beach trip for our junior team which was enjoyed by all and our Allandale Senior swimming sport day at the Whakatane Aquatic centre.
Over this week we have been lucky enough to have Colleen Wills from the University of Waikato supporting all teachers in literacy and formative assessment. Colleen, alongside our team leaders and myself have been observing some fantastic learning across the school. Colleen will be back in two weeks to continue on our literacy development journey.
Wow, what a day it was last Friday. Thank you so much for being so supportive. We are fortunate to have such a caring and professional team surrounding our students and whānau.
Many of you have already provided really positive feedback on the comms. So a BIG thank you to Erin, Kleesha and Claire.
Our whānau have also given us positive feedback around how our staff supported their children from the start of the evaluation to their safe return back to school. Thank you to our amazing staff who put our students and whānau first before their own.
Thank you to the whānau who supported us by bringing gazebos, water and supporting us while evacuated. To Paul Camburn and Erin Green, Hoani Postlethwaite, Marley Taipeti, Monica Patterson, Ngahuia Murphy, Rebbeca MacKay, Renee and Desiree and Oscar Arbaugh, who supported our school in so many ways.
A huge THANK YOU goes to Paul & Ingrid and Richard & Karen and their whānau for sharing their space and kindness with Allandale School and our community.
Allandale School loves being part of a kind and caring community.
While we were really happy with how everyone stepped up on the day to ensure our kids were calm and safe, there are always opportunities to learn from a crisis, and we are working on updating our procedures to make sure our plans are as thorough as possible.
One of the things we have identified in this debrief is the need to have up to date contact mobile phone numbers for all our whānau so that our text messages can get through in an emergency.
Please fill out the form below or respond to the message you will get on seesaw with your up to date contact information.
If you have any thoughts to share on how the school could improve the evacuation response, please call the school office or email adriannem@allandale.school.nz or boardoftrustees@allandale.school.nz with your ideas.
