School Newsletter Week 8, Term 1
Kia ora e te whānau,
Thank you for your ongoing aroha and support for the school through these times.
On Wednesday the Prime Minister announced changes to the COVID-19 Protection Framework which will take effect from 11.59pm tonight (Friday 25 March), and to vaccine mandates and My Vaccine Pass, which will take effect from 11.59pm Monday 4 April. New Zealand remains at Red. However, Cabinet will review the framework colour level on Monday 4 April.
Thus far, it’s been an up and down term for us all and we are hoping / super excited about returning to some type of normality come Monday the 4th. My own whānau have had COVID-19 so if this has / is happening in your whare we are sending aroha your way.
We’ve reviewed our proposed plan to better support whānau in terms of kai at home and have decided to delay kicking this off till after Monday the 4th. We will communicate any changes with you between now and then.
For now wishing everyone a great weekend and if you have any questions about anything please let us know by contacting the school office.
Ngā mihi

Teacher Only Days
We will be holding a Teacher Only Day (TOD) this coming Monday the 28th of March so school will be closed..
The goal of this TOD is to develop a more consistent school-wide approach to literacy teaching and learning.
Term 1 - TOD’s (confirmed):
Monday 28 March – Structured Literacy.
Thursday 14 April – Whakatāne Kāhu Ako
(all schools who are part of the Kāhui Ako will be closed for instruction).
School Attendance
Please let us know if your child is at home because they have covid or if they are isolating due to being a Household Contact. We are slowly seeing our daily attendance numbers increase and looking forward to having everyone back at school, learning and thriving.
It is important that you keep in touch with the school in regards to your child’s attendance so we make sure absences are explained and not marked T for truant.
School Lunches
Free lunches are provided each day for every child as part of the Healthy School Lunches Programme. So far this term we have had meatballs with mash, nachos, macaroni cheese, sandwiches, pasta and chicken wraps. They also include yummy snacks like pretzels, cookies and yogurt. If your child’s dietary requirements have changed, please let the office or class teacher know.
We receive fruit from the Fruit in Schools’ programme and our children enjoy this at morning tea and throughout the day, but tamariki may wish to bring a snack for morning tea. We encourage families to provide water only instead of juices and fizzy drinks.
Sports News
Soccer and netball will be starting in Tern 2. Hopefully with the lifting of restrictions, we will be able to offer more sports and activities for tamariki to be involved with. We communicate details for sports here in our newsletter, as well as Facebook and forms being sent home.
