School Newsletter: Week 8, Term 2 2021
Tēnā koutou ngā whānau o Te Kura o Motueka/Allandale School.
Ngā mihi nui o te tau hou Māori. Matariki is a time for many wonderful things, including celebrating one another, reflecting on the past year and planning for the new year ahead.
Welcome to Whaea Trysh
There are many fantastic things to celebrate at Allandale and this week we have welcomed a new kaiako. Whaea Trysh has started as the kaiako in Rimu 3, taking over from Mrs Kayley Foster who has taken Maternity Leave. Whaea Trysh comes to us from Selwyn School in Rotorua with a kete full of teaching experience from here in New Zealand and around the world. We are so excited to have her join our Allandale Whanau.
Roll-Growth
In addition to our new kaiako for Rimu 3, we’ve also had a lot of new students begin their journeys at Allandale, particularly in our Junior Team. Our Junior class numbers are growing quite large and more new enrolments are expected to be starting in the new term.
Many of our Year 2 students in the Junior Team are also demonstrating readiness for the next step in their learning journeys. This is also similar for many of our Year 4 students in the Middle Team. We are so proud to see our students flourishing and ready to take that next step.
Therefore, to cater to our students who are ready for the next step in their learning journeys and to ease numbers in the Junior Team classes, we are going to transition some students from the Junior Team to the Middle Team and from the Middle Team to the Senior Team. Of course, we will communicate with the whānau of students who are ready to make this move and no transitions will occur without whānau support.
Farewells
Farewells
While it is always exciting to have new staff and students join our Allandale whānau, it is always sad to have to farewell members of our whānau also.
Sadly, it is time for us to farewell Whaea Alana Pugh, the teacher in Kihikihi 17. Whaea Alana has been headhunted to take on a new role outside of education and we wish her all the best in her next journey. Whaea Alana, thank you for everything you have given our tamariki and Allandale whānau. We will miss you.
We also bid farewell to Whaea Vai Wirangi-Williams who is one of our valued Teacher Aides. Whaea Vai, we wish you well in your next journey. Thank you for everything you have done to support our tamariki.
Matariki Planting Day
Matariki Art by Kowhai 5
On Tuesday the 6th of July, we warmly welcome our Allandale whānau and community to join us in celebrating Matariki. To mark this special time, we are holding a planting day and special assembly.
Organisation of the Day:
11am: Mihi Whakatau
11.30am: Planting to begin - Approx. 175 square meters of planting
12.30pm: Lunch Play - Fun games with Whānau (e.g. adult vs child soccer game, tug-of-war)
1.15pm: Picnic on the field - Our tamariki will have their Ka Pai Kai lunches and we will provide a sausage sizzle for our whānau.
1.45pm: Special Matariki Assembly
Please note: Our postponement day for this event is Thursday 8th of July. We will advertise via facebook on Tuesday morning if the weather forces us to postpone.
School Lunches:
We are currently seeking feedback about our School Lunches and the timing of Lunch Eating. Currently, our students play from 12.30 - 1.15pm and eat following their play time from 1.15pm - 1.35pm.
We are keen to hear feedback about:
Do your tamariki enjoy their lunches?
Are the portion sizes big enough and is the school lunch programme meaning less lunch is needing to be packed from home?
What are your thoughts about the timing of lunch?
Cross Country
Congratulations to Caleb O’Neill, Phoebe Jones, Lachlan Mackay and Te Kohu Rangiheua-Akuhata. After competing in last week’s EBOP Cross Country they made the top 15 in their age groups so will go to the BOP competition next Tuesday in Tauranga.
