School Newsletter: Week 9, Term 2 2021
Kia ora e te whānau,
We hope everyone is keeping well and warm during this super cold weather at the moment. Thank goodness for our heat pumps in all classes, which are being well used at present.
Class Transitions
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we have identified a number of students who are ready for the next step in their learning journey. To support these students, we are transitioning some of our Yr 2 students into the Middle Team and some of our Yr 4 students into the Senior Team.
Here is some key information that we want all parents to know about these class transitions:
Your child transitioning at this time of the year is optional. We will not move any students without whānau consent.
The transitions are designed to support your child with their next learning steps. Year 2 students who are moving into the Middle Team will be placed in a Yr 2 - 3 class and the classroom program will be specifically designed for this age group.
All students who are transitioning will complete 2 x 1hr transition visits next week in their new classroom.
Whānau who have children moving can expect a call from their child’s new teacher in the near future / early next term.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s current classroom teacher or any of our Team Leaders - Mrs Adamson (Junior Team), Mrs Naik (Middle Team), and Whaea Ash (Senior Team).
PB4L Focus
Supporting our students to be Allandale Kind of Kids is hugely important to us. With the end of term nearing, we have identified three key focus areas for the remainder of Term 2. These are:
Remaining in class during learning time
Keeping our hands to ourselves
Following all teacher instructions.
These focus areas have been identified to help us all have a positive end to the term. We are having regular chats and reminders in class about our foci and would appreciate it if whānau could also chat with their tamariki about what these look like in action. We are all Allandale Kind of Kids!
School Lunches
Some of our whānau have shared their thoughts about lunches and as always, we are listening. One of the key messages we have received about lunch is that the eating time is too late. Therefore, next week we are going to trial having lunch eating at the earlier time of 12.30pm before the students go out to play. We will keep in touch about how this trial goes and use this trial to inform any future decisions about lunch eating for Term 3.
Our break times next week will be:
12.30 - 12.45: Lunch Eating
12.45 - 1.30: Lunch Play
Matariki Planting Day
On Tuesday the 6th of July, we warmly welcome our Allandale whānau and community to join us in celebrating Matariki. To mark this special time, we are holding a planting day and special assembly.
Organisation of the Day:
11am: Mihi Whakatau
11.30am: Planting to begin - Approx. 175 square meters of planting
12.30pm: Lunch Play - Fun games with Whānau (e.g. adult vs child soccer game, tug-of-war)
1.15pm: Picnic on the field - Our tamariki will have their Ka Pai Kai lunches and we will provide a sausage sizzle for our whānau.
1.45pm: Special Matariki Assembly
Please note: Our postponement day for this event is Thursday 8th of July. We will advertise via facebook on Tuesday morning if the weather forces us to postpone.
Cross Country
Lachlan Mackay, Caleb O’Neill and Te Kohu Rangiheua-Akuhata all competed at the Bay of Plenty Cross Country Competition this week. The 3 boys represented our school by being Allandale Kind of Kids. A big thank you to the parents who transported the tamariki there and braved the cold weather for the day.
Gymnastics
EBOP gymnastics competition took place at the Whakatane Gymnastics club on Friday last week. Allandale had a large group of tamariki from year 1 right through to year 6 competing in this competition. The girls completed routines on the floor, beam, and vault while the boys completed routines in the floor vault and parallel bars. It was an exciting day for all competitors and everyone enjoyed medals and certificates which was a lovely surprise. Some of our tamariki placed in many events or as groups but we must mention Aroha Herewini and Tuumanako Foster who took away multiple prizes and medals on the day. Congratulations to all competitors, you all trained very hard for this event and we are so proud of you. Thanks so much to Renee Martin and all the parent helpers on the day, we couldn't do it without your help. Ka Rawe.
